THE FACTS
33 schools designated as early voting sites across Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island
Over 25,000 students and 33 instructional days impacted
Queens has never had any schools used as early voting sites!
Not against early voting!
-
Security breaches where voters have made their way beyond the designated voting area and into school hallways, classrooms or cafeterias during instruction, presenting serious security risks. Incidents have also included theft, vandalism, using student restrooms along with students, and even aggression towards staff.
-
Schools have no guidance on how to handle lockdowns or shelter-in-place situations, which are becoming increasingly common.
-
Where cafeterias are used as a voting area, no access to hot meals affects our most vulnerable students. In many cases, school meals are the only hot meals a student may receive.
-
School programming and access to spaces is impacted: cafeterias, gym and required physical activity, libraries, D75, clubs, after school activities and PSAL sports, to list a few examples. The lack of security agents due to cuts forces principals to dip into their budgets to hire substitute teachers to fill in security gaps.

We Need Alternative Sites
Send us potential alternative early voting sites in your school’s neighborhood. We want to provide solutions to the Board of Elections that will expedite the process. Sites must be ADA/wheelchair accessible.
